I have never heard of a 8.8 x 1/2 metric bolt. If you are reading the head of the bolt where is has stamped 8.8 or 10.8, 12.9 as examples... that is the strength rating of the bolt ... Off-roading in mud would be bad for it but dry summer paved roads likely won't hurt it. Wet roads might not be too bad for it if need be. The dust cover is not a water tight seal type of device.
